Terms of Service

The agreement between you and RollNumber Technologies Private Limited for using this website, ADi Wallet, Dygital.degree and Checkkbox.

Last updated 20 October 2026 · Read them with our Privacy Policy

The short version
  • We run the technology. Universities, colleges and employers are responsible for the records they issue, and government sources for the records they hold.
  • Anyone who checks records must have a lawful reason and the person’s consent, and must use what they receive only for that reason.
  • Prices are shown before you pay. Individuals can cancel a check before it starts, get a refund for any part of a check that never started, and get a refund if we fail to deliver.
  • Our liability is limited as set out in section 13, but never where the law does not allow a limit.
  • Disputes are handled under Indian law, and individuals keep their right to approach consumer commissions.

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and RollNumber Technologies Private Limited ("TheRollNumber", "we", "us"), Hyderabad, Telangana. They apply when you use www.therollnumber.com, ADi Wallet, Dygital.degree or Checkkbox (together, the "Services"). Sections 20 to 22 add terms for each product.

By creating an account, clicking to accept, or using the Services, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you use the Services for an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to bind it, and "you" includes that organisation.

You must be at least 18 and able to enter into a binding contract under Indian law. These terms are an electronic record under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and do not need a physical or digital signature.

2. Key words

  • Record: a certificate, marksheet, letter, identity or employment record, or a verification result.
  • Issuer: a university, college or employer that issues Records on the network.
  • Holder: a person who holds Records in ADi Wallet.
  • Verifier: anyone who asks to check a Record, such as an employer, verification agency, lender, landlord, platform or family member.
  • Customer: an organisation that uses Dygital.degree or Checkkbox under these terms or a signed agreement with us.

3. Accounts

  • Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
  • Keep your sign-in details and one-time passwords secret. You are responsible for activity on your account unless it results from our failure to protect it.
  • Tell us at once at support@therollnumber.com if you suspect unauthorised use.
  • Organisations are responsible for the users they add and for removing access when someone leaves.

4. Our role on the network

  • We provide technology that lets Issuers issue Records, Holders hold and share them, and Verifiers check them at the source.
  • Issuers are responsible for the accuracy of the Records they issue and for their authority to issue them. Government sources are responsible for the records they hold.
  • A verification result shows what the source confirmed at that time. We do not create, edit or endorse the content of Records.
  • We do not make hiring, lending, tenancy or other decisions. Verifiers make their own decisions and are responsible for them.
  • Turnaround times we describe, such as identity, education and EPFO/TDS employment checks closing in under 15 minutes, apply when the candidate’s records are already on the network. A past employer’s confirmation takes as long as their HR takes to reply. Turnaround times are estimates, not guarantees.

5. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • request, view or use anyone’s Records without a lawful purpose and their consent, or for any purpose other than the one stated in the request;
  • upload, issue or share a Record you know or suspect is false, altered or not yours, or impersonate anyone;
  • use the Services to discriminate unlawfully, harass, stalk or harm anyone;
  • copy, scrape, resell or sublicense the Services or data from them, except as a signed agreement allows;
  • probe, scan or test the security of the Services, reverse engineer them, or interfere with their operation, except through a disclosure programme we have agreed in writing;
  • upload malware or content that is unlawful or that you do not have the right to share;
  • share content that is obscene, defamatory, invasive of another’s privacy, harmful to children, infringes intellectual property, threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, or is patently false and intended to mislead (Rule 3(1)(b), Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021);
  • break any law, including the DPDP Act, the Aadhaar Act, 2016 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.

We remind users of these rules at least once a year.

6. Fees and payment

  • The price of any paid service is shown before you pay, or set out in your order form. Prices include or show GST as applicable.
  • For degree checks, each university or college sets its own verification fee. We collect it on the institution’s behalf with our platform fee, and pass it on under our agreement with the institution.
  • Before you pay, we show you the total price. For a degree check or a certificate fetch, that price includes the institution’s fee and our platform fee.
  • For business Customers, pricing depends on volume and the checks needed, and is set out in the quote or order form.
  • Payments are processed by authorised payment partners. Business invoices are payable within the period stated on the invoice.
  • We may change prices for future purchases. For plans, where an order form sets one up, we will give at least 30 days’ notice, and you may cancel before the new price applies.

7. Cancellations and refunds

  • Checks bought by individuals (such as pre-marital or household checks): you can cancel for a full refund before any request is sent to a source. After requests are sent, fees are not refundable, because sources and partners have started work, unless the check fails because of our fault. If a check has several components and some were never sent to a source, we refund those components.
  • Certificate fetch fees: refunded if you cannot fetch the certificate into your wallet because of our fault.
  • Plans, where an order form sets one up: you can cancel at any time; the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, and is not refunded for part periods.
  • Business Customers: as set out in your order form or agreement.
  • Approved refunds are paid to the original payment method within 7 to 10 working days.

To ask for a refund, write to support@therollnumber.com with your payment reference.

8. Intellectual property

  • The Services, including software, designs, text, graphics, and the names and logos TheRollNumber, ADi Wallet, Dygital.degree and Checkkbox, belong to us or our licensors.
  • We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Services under these terms.
  • You keep ownership of the content and Records you provide. You allow us to host, process and transmit them only to provide the Services, as these terms and the Privacy Policy describe.
  • We may use de-identified and aggregated data, which no longer identifies anyone, to operate, secure and improve the Services.
  • If you send us feedback, we may use it without any obligation to you.

9. Third-party sources and services

Some features depend on third parties, such as UIDAI, the Income Tax Department, EPFO, court record databases, payment partners and app stores. We do not control them, and their availability, accuracy and terms are their responsibility. Links to other websites are for convenience only.

10. Availability and changes to the Services

We work to keep the Services available and secure, but they may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance, upgrades or reasons outside our control. We may add, change or remove features. If a change materially reduces a paid service you have bought, we will tell you in advance where we can, and you may cancel and receive a pro-rata refund for any prepaid period you cannot use. Features marked beta or pilot are provided for evaluation and may change.

11. Suspension and termination

  • You can stop using the Services at any time, and delete your ADi Wallet account by emailing us with the subject “Delete my ADi Wallet account”.
  • We may suspend or close an account if it breaks these terms, puts others or the network at risk, involves suspected fraud, or if the law or an authority requires it. Where reasonable, we will give notice and a chance to fix the problem first.
  • After closure, we handle your data as the Privacy Policy describes. Sections 8 and 12 to 18 continue to apply.

12. Disclaimers

Except as these terms say, the Services are provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we do not give warranties that the Services will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that information from Issuers, government sources or other third parties is complete or accurate. Nothing in the Services is legal, financial or professional advice.

13. Limitation of liability

  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue or goodwill, or for decisions anyone makes based on a Record or verification result.
  • Our total liability for all claims relating to the Services in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid us for the Services in that period. For individuals, it is the higher of those fees and Rs 5,000.
  • These limits do not apply to liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, loss caused by our breach of data protection law, or any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including your rights as a consumer.

14. Indemnity

If you use the Services for a business, you will compensate us for losses, penalties and reasonable legal costs arising from third-party claims caused by your breach of these terms or the law, including requesting or using Records without a lawful purpose or consent, or issuing inaccurate Records. We will tell you promptly about any such claim and let you help defend it.

15. Confidentiality

Each party will keep confidential the other’s non-public business information received through the Services, use it only to perform these terms, and protect it with reasonable care. This does not apply to information that is public, already known, independently developed, or that must be disclosed by law.

16. Governing law and disputes

  • These terms are governed by the laws of India.
  • Please contact our Grievance Officer first. Most issues can be resolved quickly, and both sides will try in good faith for 30 days.
  • Business Customers: any dispute not resolved will be decided by arbitration by a sole arbitrator under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. The seat and venue will be Hyderabad, and the language English.
  • Individuals: the courts at Hyderabad, Telangana have jurisdiction. Nothing in these terms limits your right to approach a consumer commission under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, or the Data Protection Board of India.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. For material changes, we will give notice in the app, by email or on this page at least 15 days before they apply, unless a change is required sooner by law or for security. If a change materially affects your rights, we will ask you to accept the updated terms in the app before your next paid use. If you do not accept, you can close your account and receive a pro-rata refund of any prepaid, unused period.

18. General

  • Order of precedence: a signed agreement or order form prevails over these terms; product terms in sections 20 to 22 prevail over the general terms for that product.
  • Events beyond control: neither party is liable for delay caused by events beyond its reasonable control, such as outages of government sources, natural disasters or network failures.
  • Assignment: you may not transfer these terms without our consent. We may transfer them to a successor in a merger, acquisition or restructuring.
  • Severability and waiver: if a term is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term is not a waiver.
  • Notices: we send notices to your account email or in the app; you can send notices to the address in section 19.

20. ADi Wallet terms (for individuals and families)

  • Your wallet: you instruct us to fetch your records from their sources and to hold them for you. You confirm that the records you add or fetch are yours, or that you are authorised to hold them.
  • Sharing: you choose what to share, with whom and for how long, and you can take a share back. Taking a share back stops further access through us; it cannot recall copies a Verifier already received, which the Verifier must handle under its own legal duties.
  • Family features: before you can see or share an adult family member’s records, that person approves it from their own phone, and they can withdraw this at any time. You can hold a child’s records only after we verify that you are the parent or lawful guardian, and we verify guardianship of a person with a disability before you can act for them.
  • Pre-marital and household checks: each person checked approves their own part of the request. Results show what sources confirmed; they are not a judgement of anyone’s character. A court record name match is not proof that the record belongs to the person checked. You must not use them to discriminate unlawfully or to harass anyone.

21. Dygital.degree terms (for universities and colleges)

  • Each institution uses Dygital.degree under a signed agreement with us. The institution uploads, processes and issues its own certificates; we provide the platform and do not issue certificates ourselves. The institution confirms it has the authority to issue each certificate, that its data is accurate, and that its signatories are authorised. It is the Data Fiduciary for issuing and verifying its certificates, and we process that data on its instructions. We are a Data Fiduciary for telling students that a certificate is ready to fetch into ADi Wallet, under our agreement with the institution, and for the fetch and payment when a student chooses to fetch it.
  • Certificates are issued digitally in the NAD standard format, each with a QR code. Certificates are anchored on Hyperledger, and any change to an issued certificate makes its QR check fail. The institution can revoke a certificate it issued, and verification will then show it as revoked.
  • Students who fetch a certificate into ADi Wallet see the fee before they pay.
  • Joining the portal is free for institutions unless an agreement says otherwise. Each institution sets its own verification fee (section 6).
  • Batch issue in three to four hours applies when the institution’s data is clean and complete and its signatories are ready.

22. Checkkbox terms (for employers, agencies and other Verifiers)

  • Lawful purpose and consent: before starting a check, you must have a lawful purpose and the candidate’s informed consent for the checks you choose, and you must tell the candidate how results will be used. Requests through ADi Wallet show the candidate who is asking, why and for which records.
  • Use of results: use results only for the stated purpose, keep them secure, and keep them only as long as needed. Before taking an adverse decision based on a result, we recommend giving the candidate a chance to respond.
  • Agencies: if you run checks for a client, you confirm you are authorised by that client and will pass on these obligations to it.
  • Court records and credit: court records are searched digitally. A name match is not proof that a record belongs to the candidate, so confirm it with the candidate before you act on it. We do not obtain credit reports for you; where a role needs one, the candidate downloads their own report from a credit bureau and shares it through ADi Wallet.
  • Past-employer confirmations and issued letters: past employers confirm on a secure link and sign by typing their name, a confirmation is accepted only when the signer's email domain matches the employer domain in the request, and each response is time-stamped and logged. An employer that confirms employment or issues an offer, appointment, experience or relieving letter is responsible for its accuracy.
  • Data processing: for checks you run, you are the Data Fiduciary and we are your Data Processor. We are a Data Fiduciary only for the consent request and its record in ADi Wallet, and we do not use data from one customer’s check for any other customer or for our own purposes. We process candidate data only on your documented instructions, protect it with appropriate security, use sub-processors under written contracts, help you answer candidates’ rights requests, tell you without delay about any personal data breach, and delete or return the data at the end of the service unless the law requires us to keep it. A data processing agreement forms part of every Checkkbox customer agreement.
